Get Your Chevy Ready for Winter at Mike Kelly Chevrolet

As winter approaches, ensuring your Chevy is prepared for the colder months is key to keeping it running smoothly. At Mike Kelly Chevrolet in Butler, PA, we’re here to help you get your vehicle in top shape to handle whatever the weather throws your way. Follow this checklist to make sure your Chevy is winter‑ready: 1. Test Your Battery Colder temperatures can put extra stress on your vehicle’s battery, especially as it ages. A weakened battery can leave you stranded at the most inconvenient time. Before the cold hits, have your battery tested at Mike Kelly Chevrolet. If it’s showing signs of wear, we can help you replace it to ensure reliable starts all winter long. 2. Inspect Your Tires Your tires are your vehicle’s only contact with the road, and winter driving requires them to be in peak condition. Check your tire tread and ensure they’re properly inflated. Under‑inflated tires can lose traction, especially in icy or wet conditions. If you’re in an area prone to snow or ice, consider winter tires for improved traction and safety. Our service team at Mike Kelly Chevrolet is ready to assist with tire inspections and replacements. 3. Change the Oil As temperatures drop, the engine oil in your Chevy can thicken, making it harder for your engine to run smoothly. Have your oil changed before the cold weather sets in, using the right type of oil for winter conditions. Regular oil changes ensure optimal engine performance and better fuel efficiency, both of which are crucial when it’s cold outside. 4. Check Antifreeze Levels Antifreeze plays a critical role in keeping your engine from freezing in cold weather. Ensure that your antifreeze levels are topped off and the mixture is balanced correctly. If you’re unsure of your coolant’s condition, bring your Chevy into Mike Kelly Chevrolet, where we can check it and top it off if necessary. 5. Inspect Wipers and Fluid With the increased chances of snow, rain, and ice, your windshield wipers are crucial for visibility. Check the condition of your wiper blades and replace them if they’re worn. Additionally, make sure your windshield washer fluid is topped off and contains the proper formula for winter—one that won’t freeze in low temperatures. 6. Assemble an Emergency Kit It’s always smart to be prepared for the unexpected during winter. Keep an emergency kit in your Chevy with items like jumper cables, a flashlight, blankets, non‑perishable snacks, and basic first aid supplies. This simple precaution can make all the difference if you’re ever in a bind. At Mike Kelly Chevrolet in Butler, PA, we’re dedicated to helping you keep your Chevy in top condition throughout the cold weather season. Schedule your service appointment today and let our expert technicians ensure your vehicle is ready for whatever winter brings.

Chevy Battery Maintenance: Tips for Longevity

The smooth running of your Chevrolet relies on the battery for an uninterrupted supply of electricity. The battery requires regular care, and if you neglect it, you may find yourself stranded with an engine that refuses to start. Here are seven solid Chevy battery maintenance guidelines to keep your battery in great shape for longer. Secure Your Battery Firmly in Place If a car battery is even slightly loose in its tray, it will vibrate excessively. These continual vibrations can gradually damage it, shortening its lifespan. With this in mind, periodically check and tighten the brackets and clamps to ensure that your battery is firmly fastened. Insulate Your Battery Against the Cold Extreme temperatures are another threat to car batteries. The cold, in particular, can shorten their lifespans, especially if the battery is already growing old. You can buy special insulation blankets that protect your battery from the cold. In addition, during winter, try to park in a garage overnight; at least invest in an insulated car cover, which will keep your entire vehicle safer from the cold. Clean Your Battery Regularly It's important to keep your battery clean with regular wipe downs. Never allow dirt and grime to build on the casing and terminals, as this will eventually harm the battery. If you ever notice corrosion appearing on the terminals, clean it away with baking soda and water or a stronger anti-corrosion product. Also, keep the battery tray clean. Avoid Shorter Trips Where Possible When you use your car for just five or ten minutes, the alternator doesn't have time to fully recharge the battery. Repeated short trips may leave your battery depleted, which can cause it to deteriorate. So, try to take longer trips frequently, perhaps by combining quick errands into a single longer drive. Keep Your Car in Regular Use It's also important to use your battery often. When left inactive, car batteries slowly lose their charge and degrade. Ideally, drive your car at least once a week for more than thirty minutes. Trickle Charge During Periods of Disuse If you do need to leave your Chevy unused for a few weeks, invest in a trickle charger, which will supply a continual low-amp charge. This keeps the battery powered up and in great condition, ready for use when you return. Avoid Using Electronics When the Engine's Off When the engine's on, the car's electronics receive voltage from the battery. At the same time, the alternator recharges the battery at a faster rate than it's being depleted. But once the engine's off, the battery depletes at a much quicker rate. You'll lessen this strain by turning off whichever electronic accessories you don't need whenever you idle or switch the engine off. Have your car battery tested, repaired, or replaced today at Mike Kelly Chevrolet in Butler, PA. We provide comprehensive vehicle services with prompt, courteous customer care.

From fast-paced downhill to gentle rides through the Pennsylvania countryside, there really is something for everyone on our list of the best nearby trails. 1. Butler-Freeport Community Trail The Butler-Freeport Community Trail follows the route of the first railroad in Butler County, built-in 1873. It's a great option for the whole family, with multiple trailheads along its route and a level surface along the majority of its length. The full length of the trail is 21 miles, from Connoquenessing Creek in east Butler to central Freeport, but there are lots of places to join the trail along its length, so you can choose the right length for you. 2. Alameda Park Trails Over 11 miles of singletrack are spread out across several trails in this community park on the western outskirts of Butler. All the trails are built to the latest IMBA standards, guaranteeing a fun ride for all. Start at Maryland Avenue, one of the oldest logging roads in the park that provides access to many of the other trails in the park. It's sometimes wet in places after heavy rains. From here you can access many of the tougher trails on the north side of the creek, including the intermediate Lift Ticket and Rocky and Bulwinkle trails. Both of these provide access to the expert Flying Squirrel Trail, a fast and technical downhill run with three sections of large bumps. It's not for the faint-hearted! 3. Moraine Bike Trail Located in the nearby Moraine State Park, this long, level paved trail follows the twists and turns of Lake Arthur's shoreline. Rolling terrain and beautiful scenery make it a great choice. It's just over 7 miles long, with parking lots at either end. It's frequently used by runners and walkers, so keep an eye out when you're riding. Water and bathrooms are speckled along the route but are all closed in the off-season. 4. Union parking lot, and immediately crosses several rock gardens, before heading up to the top of a ridge.  The trails follow the ridge eastwards, before descending through a valley. Expect lots of ups and downs as you head eastward, before turning south along one of two powerline clearings. Where to Go for the Best Burgers Near Butler, PA

Burgers are a great go-to food. They're filling, affordable, and one of the ultimate comfort foods. For over 100 years, burgers have been one of America's favorite foods. When you need one of the best burgers you've ever tasted, Butler, PA has some of the best establishments to satisfy your burger cravings. These are a selection of our favorites. The Chop Shop Located at 108 N Main Street, the name doesn't refer to pork or lamb chops, it's decorated with lights, license plates, and other material "chopped" from cars. The relaxed vintage look includes lots of exposed brick and generously sized booths to relax and enjoy their delicious food. The laid-back atmosphere doesn't extend to the kitchen or the servers. Both groups are fast, friendly, and their commitment shows. The Shop's basic burger is a beef or lentil patty with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, onions, and dill pickles. The patties are freshly made every day. Don't think basic means boring though the taste is excellent. To keep you excited, there's a range of toppings, including bacon, brisket, and chili. They also have five specialty burgers that have been winning new customers since they opened. The Shop is open from 10.30 am Monday to Saturday. The Holy Cow Seventeen miles might sound like a long way to go for a burger, but if you think that you haven't eaten at Holy Cow yet. The restaurant is located at 1230 W Park Road, Slippery Rock. They offer beef or black bean choices for your patty, and seven possible combinations to go with it. One of our favorites is the dragon burger with your choice of patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, fresh jalapenos, and pepper jack cheese. The Euro burger is our other choice, with a patty, portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, arugula, and Swiss cheese. Holy Cow has a great location, and it's built just like an old-time diner complete with a tall neon "Eat Here" arrow sign. The retro look is almost as much a crowd-pleaser as their fantastic burgers. They're open from 11 am to 8 pm from Friday to Sunday. North Country Brew Pub This pub was originally built in 1805. It's operated as a pub and eating house for most of that time. The building has been extensively rebuilt using all-original wood and other materials. The building serves as a wonderful backdrop to their amazing burgers. They offer five basic burger options that can be customized with a wide variety of additional toppings. Your patty choice includes Angus beef, chicken, vegetarian, vegan chicken, and Canadian-raised elk! If you haven't tried an elk burger before, you're for a real treat. It comes with a fried egg and candied bacon and is served on a bun made from the spent grains from their brewing process. After a great burger, it's time to think about a great car. Your next car. Come into Mike Kelly Chevrolet today, and we'll help you arrange your new Chevrolet. Image via Pixabay

6 of the Best Hotels for Visiting Butler, PA

When it comes to places to stay, tastes vary, as some seek luxury, others a modest retreat, or a business-oriented atmosphere, and some look for local style; the variety of hotels in Butler, PA will, we think, fit the bill for you as a visitor. The Fairfield Inn and Suites This Marriott is a fair size, with 75 guest rooms, and located on Fairfield Lane, could be a great family event venue, as well as being perfectly suited for business needs. Its style is modern and friendly, with practicality and comfort clearly in mind - decent-sized desks are provided in rooms as are microwaves and refrigerators, and you can choose a room with a Whirpool Spa! Comfort Inn At Number One Comfort Lane, the Comfort Inn and Suites has outdoor parking and a heated indoor pool in addition to bookable meeting and event rooms. At least one of the guest rooms is wheelchair-accessible, and all rooms have refrigerators. Located nearby (a 7-minute drive) is Succop Nature Park wedding venue, so altogether, the Comfort has much to recommend it. Conley Resort and Golf Club Out on Pittsburgh Road, the Conley is clearly a gem for the dedicated golfer (currently rooms aren't available for non-golf bookings due to Coronavirus, but bookings are open for the next golf season, and for special events). There are 60 guest rooms at the motel, where there is also an indoor waterpark with a whirlpool and a sauna, also boasting two waterslides. Plus, four meeting or banquet rooms. You can take advantage of golf packages, and outings are available. Hampton Inn Located at Butler Crossings, this Hampton Inn is 30 minutes from Slippery Rock University and has 80 guest rooms. One feature, that we rather like, is the outdoor patio with a barbecue grill. It is also great that on-site laundry facilities are provided (but a patio with barbecue gets top marks!). Detailed accessibility information is supplied by the motel, and with good event facilities too, it's an option to explore. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Close to Benjamin Franklin Highway, on North Duffy Road, the Holiday Inn is an up-to-date practical choice, especially for the visitor who values functionality without sacrificing standards. All the facilities we would expect are available, and accessibility information is supplied. It is also conveniently close to Slippery Rock University and has a bookable 500 square-foot meeting room. SpringHill Suites by Marriot Centrally located at East Jefferson Street, the SpringHill Suites is exactly that; all guest accommodation is suite accommodation. Governed by its West Elm influence, rooms are spacious and furnishings have the modern elegance typical of West Elm.
